Kurt Barnhart's Phoenix Kenpo

About American Kenpo Karate
Kenpo is an explosive hybrid Karate based on traditional martial arts methods that incorporate modern updates.
Kenpo is both an internal and external system - meaning we train both mind and body.

There are many styles of Kenpo. Japanese versions are spelled Kempo. American versions are spelled Kenpo.
Either way, they are interpretations of the martial arts of China.

Here at Soshinkan Dojo, we are honored to teach the Parker system of American Kenpo. American Kenpo is a modern, practical self-defense system created by the late Grandmaster Edmund K. Parker. It is the original "mixed" martial art incorporating both Chinese and Japanese martial arts.

Benefits of training
Self-Discipline, Improved Coordination, Strength, Flexibility, Increased Confidence, Self-Defense

Professor Barnhart's Philospophy
When discussing martial arts, "art" refers to balance. Specifically, having balance in our individual lives so that we can transform ourselves into better human beings. As we better ourselves, we make those around us better. In doing so, we can make a better world, one where we will not need to use the "martial" part.

The Instructors
Only black belts or advanced brown belts are allowed to teach at the dojo. They are overseen by Professor Kurt Barnhart (7th degree black belt).
